Versatile Fluid Connectors for Sensitive Applications

In analytical laboratories, automated adhesive dispensing, and specialized food processing lines, fittings often need to be connected and disconnected rapidly without tools. Applying a wrench can damage sensitive equipment or cross-thread delicate micro-threads. The Precision Knurled Fluid Adapter solves this by integrating an aggressive, diamond-cut exterior texture, allowing operators to achieve a tight, leak-proof seal securely by hand—even while wearing gloves or dealing with wet environments.

At OM Engineering Works, we manufacture these specialized connectors utilizing our Traub automats and advanced CNC lathes. The true value of this component lies inside: we deep-drill and ream the internal bore to an ultra-smooth finish. This eliminates micro-crevices where bacteria, chemical residues, or drying adhesives could otherwise get trapped.

Operating from our facility in Bhayandar, Mumbai, we exclusively use Stainless Steel 316L for this product line. The low-carbon, molybdenum-rich alloy ensures absolute biocompatibility and superior resistance to pitting when exposed to harsh cleaning chemicals, saline solutions, and industrial solvents.

Key Features of Our Knurled Adapters:

  • Diamond Knurled Grip: Deeply cut cross-hatch patterns provide maximum tactile grip, eliminating the need for wrenches during frequent maintenance routines.
  • Zero-Turbulence Bore: The internal fluid pathway is precision-reamed to prevent flow disruption, crucial for accurate micro-dosing and volumetric dispensing systems.
  • Electropolished Purity: Post-machining, the fittings are electropolished. This removes microscopic machining burrs and creates a passive, highly sanitary surface that resists contamination.
  • Versatile Threading: Manufactured with standard BSP (British Standard Pipe), NPT, or specialized micro-threads depending on the OEM equipment requirement.

Why Source from OM Engineering Works?

  • High-Volume Scalability: Our automated Traub machines are perfectly suited for producing thousands of knurled connectors rapidly, lowering your B2B procurement costs.
  • Uncompromising Quality: With a 3rd generation engineering legacy, we hold tolerances down to ±0.01mm, ensuring flawless integration into your existing systems.
  • Export Compliant: Every batch is supplied with EN 10204 3.1 Material Test Certificates (MTC) to guarantee the 316L chemical composition.

Our Expertise

How We Manufacture Knurled Connectors

01
Premium SS 316L Sourcing

We source certified solid SS 316L round bar stock. The "L" designation (Low Carbon) is vital as it prevents carbide precipitation, maximizing the steel's resistance to corrosion from industrial chemicals and harsh cleaning agents.

02
High-Volume Traub Turning

The steel bars are fed into our automated Traub single-spindle lathes. The machines rapidly form the outer diameters and drill the primary internal flow channel. This automated process ensures high repeatability for bulk B2B orders.

03
Form Knurling (Diamond Pattern)

While still in the lathe, hardened steel knurling wheels are pressed against the rotating part under high pressure. This cold-forms the metal, displacing it into a sharp, diamond-patterned grip that provides excellent tactile feedback for hand-tightening.

04
Precision Bore Reaming

To ensure fluid does not face turbulence or get trapped, a precision reamer is passed through the internal bore. This leaves an incredibly smooth surface finish (low Ra value) that prevents chemical buildup and aids in easy flushing/cleaning.

05
Electropolishing

Knurling can create microscopic burrs. We subject the fittings to an electrochemical polishing process. This removes all micro-burrs, deeply cleans the threads, and forms a highly passive, shiny chromium-oxide layer for maximum rust resistance.

06
Visual QA & Export Packaging

Knurls are visually inspected to ensure they are sharp and fully formed. Threads are checked using calibrated ring/plug gauges. The components are then securely packed in moisture-proof export cartons to protect the precision surfaces during transit.

Stainless Steel for Sensitive Environments

Stainless Steel 316L (SS 316L)

Properties: The premium standard for fluid purity. SS 316L contains molybdenum, which drastically increases resistance to pitting caused by chlorides, saline, and aggressive chemicals. The "Low Carbon" structure ensures the material remains highly corrosion-resistant even after extensive machining.

Best For: Food and beverage dispensing, pharmaceutical and laboratory equipment, automated chemical dosing systems, and underwater marine applications.

Standards:

UNS S31603 EN 1.4404 AISI 316L

Stainless Steel 304 (SS 304) - On Request

Properties: The versatile, standard stainless alloy. It provides excellent natural resistance to rust and oxidation in freshwater and standard industrial environments. It is highly machinable and offers a more economical price point than 316L.

Best For: Standard pneumatic equipment, general automation connectors, water cooling lines, and non-corrosive fluid transfer.

Standards:

UNS S30400 EN 1.4301 AISI 304

Common Questions

Knurled Connectors — FAQs

A Knurled exterior is designed specifically for hand-tightening. In laboratories, food dispensing, or automation, technicians often need to disconnect hoses or nozzles rapidly for cleaning. Using a wrench on a standard hex fitting is slow and risks over-torquing and breaking delicate plastic machinery ports. Knurling provides excellent tactile grip (even with wet or gloved hands) to achieve a tight seal safely.

Standard drilling leaves microscopic grooves inside the fitting. For chemical dosing or food transfer, bacteria and chemical residues can get trapped in these grooves. In adhesive dispensing, rough bores cause the glue to cure prematurely inside the fitting. We use a precision reamer to make the bore mirror-smooth, ensuring laminar flow and easy system flushing.

The knurling process displaces metal, which can leave microscopic, sharp burrs. Electropolishing is an electrochemical process that acts like reverse-plating, melting away these micro-burrs. It leaves the fitting incredibly smooth, shiny, and highly passive (corrosion-resistant), making it ideal for sanitary and cleanroom environments.

Because we CNC machine these components in-house, we can apply any standard thread. This includes BSP (British Standard Pipe) for fluid lines, Metric machine threads, or specialized micro-threads and Luer-style locks common in laboratory and dispensing equipment.

Absolutely. Our facility in Mumbai is equipped with automated Traub machines specifically designed for the high-volume, rapid production of smaller turned parts like these adapters. We serve international OEMs with scalable production, secure export packaging, and MTC documentation.
