High-Capacity MS Guided Conveyor Rollers

Guided rollers are the backbone of industrial material handling. Operating continuously in heavy-duty conveyor systems, assembly lines, and sorting facilities, these components must support massive weight capacities without failing, seizing, or wearing down unevenly.

At OM Engineering Works, we utilize our extensive Traub machining job work and precision CNC turning capabilities to manufacture these critical components. By machining the inner and outer diameters to a strict ±0.02mm tolerance, we guarantee that press-fit bearings seat perfectly. This eliminates micro-vibrations, reduces operational noise, and exponentially extends the lifespan of both the roller and the conveyor belt.

As a third-generation engineering company based in Bhayandar, Mumbai, we understand that international OEMs require scalable reliability. To combat the constant abrasive friction inherent in logistics and mining conveyors, our Mild Steel (MS) rollers undergo specialized surface heat treatments to harden the exterior while retaining a tough, impact-resistant inner core.

Key Features of Our MS Guided Rollers:

  • Optimized Load Distribution: Engineered with appropriate wall thicknesses to prevent bowing or deflection under heavy centralized loads.
  • Precision Bearing Housings: Internally bored to exact ISO tolerances to ensure bearings operate smoothly without premature failure.
  • Wear-Resistant Surface Treatment: Case hardening and specialized anti-rust treatments protect the roller against abrasive environments and moisture.
  • Dynamic Balance: Concentricity is tightly controlled during the turning process to prevent wobbling at high operational speeds.

Our Expertise

How We Manufacture MS Conveyor Rollers

01
High-Grade MS Tube/Bar Sourcing

We source premium Mild Steel (IS 2062) seamless tubes or solid bars depending on the roller's load requirement. All raw materials are verified using spectrometers and checked against Mill Test Certificates to ensure they possess the right tensile strength and structural integrity.

02
CNC OD Turning & Facing

Leveraging our robust manufacturing infrastructure, the MS stock is cut to length and loaded into our CNC lathes. The outer diameter is precision turned to eliminate any ovality, ensuring the roller is perfectly cylindrical for balanced rotation.

03
Precision Bearing Seat Machining

The most critical step: machining the internal steps and bearing housings. We hold a strict ±0.02mm tolerance on these inner diameters. If the housing is too loose, the bearing will spin and destroy the roller; if too tight, the bearing will seize.

04
Heat Treatment (Surface Hardening)

To withstand the constant friction of conveyor belts and heavy materials, the machined rollers undergo specific heat treatments (like case hardening). This hardens the outer shell to resist wear, while leaving the core ductile enough to absorb sudden impact shocks without snapping.

05
Surface Coating & Plating

Depending on the client's operational environment, the rollers are finished with anti-corrosive treatments such as Zinc plating, Black Oxide, or industrial powder coating to prevent rust in humid warehouse or outdoor logistics settings.

06
Concentricity Check & Export Packaging

Every batch is checked for runout (concentricity) using dial indicators. Internal bearing bores are verified with Go/No-Go gauges. The finished rollers are then individually wrapped and secured in heavy-duty wooden crates designed for international sea or air freight.

Material Options

Steel Grades for Conveyor Rollers

Mild Steel (IS 2062 Grade)

Properties: An excellent general-purpose structural steel offering high ductility, superb weldability, and excellent machinability. While softer in its raw state, it responds very well to surface hardening treatments, making it highly cost-effective for mass-produced industrial hardware.

Best For: Standard warehouse conveyors, packaging lines, agricultural sorting equipment, and general light-to-medium duty material handling systems.

Standards:

IS 2062 ASTM A36 EN 10025 S275

Carbon Steel (EN8 / EN9) - On Request

Properties: Medium-carbon steels that offer significantly higher tensile strength and wear resistance natively compared to mild steel. They can be through-hardened or induction-hardened to achieve exceptional durability under extreme stress.

Best For: Mining conveyors, heavy automotive assembly lines, quarrying equipment, and systems carrying massive bulk loads.

Standards:

BS 970 EN8 / EN9 AISI 1040 / 1045 C45

Common Questions

MS Guided Conveyor Rollers — FAQs

A guided roller is a precision-machined component specifically designed to keep a conveyor belt or moving load aligned. Unlike standard pipe rollers, which are often just cut-to-length tubes with basic end caps, our guided rollers have precision-bored internal housings (machined to ±0.02mm) that securely hold bearings. They are concentrically turned to ensure they do not wobble, reducing belt tracking issues and system vibrations.

Mild Steel is the industry standard for heavy-duty material handling because it provides an optimal balance of high strength, impact resistance (ductility), and cost-effectiveness. While Aluminum is too soft for heavy loads and Stainless Steel is prohibitively expensive for large-scale conveyor systems, MS can carry massive weights. We apply surface treatments (like Zinc plating or Heat Treatment) to give the MS roller the corrosion and wear resistance it needs.

The bearing seat is where the roller connects to the spinning bearing. If we machine this seat too loose (even by 0.1mm), the outer ring of the bearing will slip and spin inside the housing, rapidly destroying the roller from the inside out. If it is too tight, it will crush the bearing, causing it to seize. Our strict ±0.02mm tolerance ensures a perfect "press fit," guaranteeing the bearing absorbs the rotation smoothly for years.

In environments like mining or heavy logistics, the friction from belts and abrasive dust wears down raw metal quickly. Heat treating (such as case hardening) alters the microstructure of the steel's surface, making it exceptionally hard and wear-resistant. Crucially, it leaves the inner core of the steel relatively soft, allowing the roller to absorb heavy impact shocks without cracking or shattering.

Absolutely. Based in Mumbai, our facility is geared towards high-volume B2B manufacturing and global export. We utilize automated Traub and CNC machines for scalable production, package goods securely for sea/air freight, and provide all necessary export documentation, including Material Test Certificates (MTC), to ensure a smooth supply chain for international OEMs.
