Extension Nipples — FAQs

Extension nipples are problem solvers. When assembling a hydraulic manifold or plumbing a control board, you often find that two components (like a valve and a gauge) bump into each other, preventing you from threading them in fully. A male-female extension nipple spaces the component outward, giving it the necessary clearance to thread into the port without altering the pipe size.

NPT (National Pipe Taper) is common in North America and features a 60-degree thread angle with flattened peaks. BSP (British Standard Pipe) is standard in Europe/Asia and features a 55-degree angle with rounded peaks. They are not compatible. We manufacture extensions in both standards based on your system requirements.

Stainless steel forms a protective oxide layer that stops rust. However, when tightening two SS threads against each other under friction, this layer can break down, causing the raw metal underneath to cold-weld or "gall." We mitigate this by CNC machining ultra-smooth, burr-free threads. We also strongly recommend applying a high-quality PTFE thread sealant paste or tape during installation to lubricate the connection.
