Product Overview

High-Pressure NPT to JIC Transition Adapters

In heavy industrial systems, fluid power must seamlessly transfer from rigid cast iron pumps (which typically use NPT tapered threads) to flexible, high-pressure hydraulic hoses (which standardly use JIC 37° flare connections). The NPT to JIC 37° Flare Adapter is the essential bridge that makes this transition possible without risking fluid leaks or pressure blowouts.

At OM Engineering Works, we manufacture these critical adapters using solid carbon steel hex bar stock. Through our advanced CNC turning centers, we machine the NPT taper and the JIC 37° cone to an ultra-precise ±0.02mm tolerance. The JIC side relies on a metal-to-metal contact seal; if the 37-degree cone is machined inaccurately, the hose fitting will not seat properly, leading to catastrophic high-pressure leaks.

Operating out of our facility in Bhayandar, Mumbai, we coat all our carbon steel adapters with a robust, RoHS-compliant Zinc plating (Cr3). This provides exceptional resistance against rust, hydraulic oil degradation, and the harsh outdoor elements encountered by earthmoving and agricultural machinery.

Key Features of Our Transition Adapters:

  • Dual Thread Functionality: One end features a male or female NPT (National Pipe Taper) thread; the other end features a male JIC (Joint Industry Council) thread with a perfectly machined 37° flare seating surface.
  • Extreme Pressure Capability: Machined from solid carbon steel, these heavy-duty adapters are capable of handling extreme pressure spikes up to 10,000 PSI (depending on size).
  • O-Ring Free Design: The JIC 37° connection achieves a highly reliable mechanical seal simply by mating the metal cone to the flared tube, eliminating the need for rubber O-rings that can degrade over time.
  • Integrated Hex Flats: Milled from hex stock to allow technicians to apply heavy wrench torque securely during installation without rounding off the fitting.

Why Source from OM Engineering Works?

Our Expertise

How We Manufacture Hydraulic Adapters

01
High-Strength Steel Sourcing

Because these fittings endure 10,000 PSI of internal pressure, we only source premium solid carbon steel hex bar stock (like EN8 or 1018) from certified mills. We avoid cast iron, which is porous and prone to cracking under high-pressure spikes.

02
CNC Turning & Cone Machining

The hex bars are fed into our advanced CNC turning centers. The most critical step is turning the 37-degree flare cone. If the angle is off by even a fraction of a degree, or the surface finish is rough, the metal-to-metal seal will fail. We maintain a ±0.02mm tolerance on this cone.

03
Precision Dual-Threading

Using single-point carbide threading tools, we cut the straight threads for the JIC side and the tapered threads for the NPT side. CNC control ensures the thread roots are clean and free of tearing, allowing for smooth wrenching and tight seals.

04
Deburring & Internal Cleaning

Any loose metal burr left inside a hydraulic fitting can travel through the system and destroy an expensive pump. All our adapters undergo rigorous deburring and high-pressure ultrasonic washing to guarantee the internal bores are pristine.

05
Zinc Plating (Anti-Corrosion)

Carbon steel will rust if unprotected. The adapters are submerged in an electroplating bath, depositing a layer of protective Zinc. A final chromate passivation (Clear or Yellow) is applied to drastically enhance the fitting's lifespan against rain, mud, and humidity.

06
Gauging & Export Packaging

NPT threads are verified with L1 taper gauges, and JIC threads are checked with Go/No-Go ring gauges. Approved batches are packed with protective thread caps in heavy-duty export cartons to ensure safe global delivery.

Metals for High-Pressure Hydraulics

Carbon Steel (Zinc Plated)

Properties: The industry standard for heavy hydraulics. High structural strength allows these fittings to easily handle the immense burst pressures (up to 10,000 PSI) generated by hydraulic pumps. The applied zinc plating provides a sacrificial barrier against rust and environmental corrosion.

Best For: Earthmoving equipment, agricultural tractors, industrial presses, and hydraulic power units.

Standards:

EN8 / C45 AISI 1018 ASTM A105

Stainless Steel (SS 304 / SS 316) - On Request

Properties: For environments where standard zinc plating is insufficient, stainless steel provides intrinsic, permanent corrosion resistance. SS 316 adds molybdenum for exceptional resistance to saltwater and harsh chemicals, while maintaining high pressure ratings.

Best For: Marine hydraulics, offshore oil rigs, chemical processing plants, and food-grade hydraulic systems.

Standards:

UNS S31600 / S30400 EN 1.4401 / 1.4301

Common Questions

NPT to JIC Adapters — FAQs

JIC (Joint Industry Council) fittings are the standard for high-pressure hydraulic lines. They feature a straight thread and a 37-degree flared seating surface. The seal is made mechanically by the metal-to-metal contact between the 37° male cone of the adapter and the female flared tubing (or hose fitting) when tightened, eliminating the need for O-rings.

Many hydraulic pumps, control valves, and cast manifolds have female NPT (tapered) ports. However, standard hydraulic hoses use JIC ends because they are much better at handling vibration and can be removed/reinstalled easily. The NPT to JIC adapter bridges this gap, giving you a secure, leak-free way to connect a flexible hose to a rigid pump housing.

Heavy machinery hydraulics generate immense pressure—often between 3,000 and 10,000 PSI. Brass is a softer metal and will simply deform, crack, or blow out under these extreme pressures. Solid Carbon Steel has the structural tensile strength required to safely contain high-pressure hydraulic oil, while the zinc plating protects it from environmental rust.

Yes and No. The NPT (tapered) side of the adapter does require a thread sealant (like PTFE tape or liquid pipe dope) because the threads themselves create the seal. However, the JIC 37° side does not require sealant; the mechanical wedging of the metal cone creates the seal. Putting tape on JIC threads can actually cause leaks.

Absolutely. Leveraging our infrastructure in Mumbai, we utilize automated Traub and CNC machines to manufacture high volumes of hydraulic adapters for heavy equipment OEMs. We provide scalable manufacturing, rigorous QA, and all necessary export documentation, including MTCs.
